Presentation skills improv workshop for speakers

Public speaking can be scary, even more so when one is an introvert. But some people make it look so simple – they use the right tone, the right gestures, project correctly and enunciate every word. And a good speaker is more engaging, more fun to watch, and can more effectively get their point across to their audience. To that end, this year we’re offering our speakers the opportunity to take part in a presentation skills improv workshop which will be taught by Jill Frutkin of the Engaging Educator.

GORUCO’s diversity scholarship program aims to support traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized people in the Ruby community (including, but not limited to people identifying as women, people of color, LGBT, and/or people with disabilities) who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend the conference for financial reasons.

Writing Talk Proposals Resources

If you do not feel like reading all of these, the major takeaways are to think more about what people will get out of your talk, rather than what the talk will cover. Direct the proposal to the attendees. Try to tell a story. Sell the benefit. Be specific and succinct about your point and the question it will answer.

Cfp Is Open

The Gotham Ruby Conference, a one-day, single-track event in New York City, is now accepting talk proposals. GORUCO will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 in the Altman building in the Flatiron District of Manhattan.

We’re interested in talks on Ruby, but as the NYC Ruby community has grown and matured, our mission has expanded to include anything of interest to the modern development community.
